Mrs. Sappington Dead
A Well-known Lady Passed Away Sunday Morning
Mrs. Rebecca E. Sappington, aged seventy-three years, died at 10:30 o’clock Sunday morning at the Vernon hotel. She was a well known lady, whose death will be sincerely regretted by her friends. She was born in Troup county in 1826. She was a sister of the late John H. Bass, and an aunt of Mrs. James A. Lewis and Dr. A.C. Bass, of this city. The children of Dr. Persons of Alabama, are also her nephews, as are a number of persons in Troup county. Mrs. Sappington had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since childhood.
The funeral took place at three o’clock yesterday afternoon from St. Luke Methodist church, conducted by Doctor J.H. Scruggs, assisted by Reverenfd W. L. Wooten. The pallbearers were Messrs. A.M. Braunon, W.R. Bedell, John Blackmar, W.D. Keene, M.M. Moore, G. J. Peacock, Doctor W. F. Gautier, and J. B. Tarver.
