Bass, 72, of 1661 W.46th St., husband of the late Mrs. Mamie Horton Bass, died in a hospital Thursday at 2 a.m. A native of Portsmouth, he was a lifelong resident of the Portsmouth-Norfolk area. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railway after 45 years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Delores Griffin of Buffalo, N.Y, and Mrs. Margie Tippett of Norfolk; three sons, Charlie Bass of Washington, N.C., Raymond Bass of Newport, R.I., and Marshall Bass of Norfolk; a brother, W.L. Bass of Crewe; two sisters; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. E. Irwin Moshier of First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
