Passed Away at a Ripe Old Age, Honored and Beloved
Died at her old home near Aurlian Springs on Thursday, March 27, Mr. Frances Dickens in the 96th year of her age. Mrs. Dickens, who was Miss Frances Bass, sister of Mr. B.W. Bass, and half sisters of Mr. J.L. Bass, who formerly lived in and near Weldon. She was born at the old homestead near Weldon, in 1818. When quite young she was married to Mr. Enoch Dickens, who died some years since. Since her marriage she had always lived in the same neighborhood and for manyyears at her home where she passed away. Until within a few months of her death, she was active in body and mind, would often attend to her housekeeping, and would read the papers with interest in current events. Her memory was fine and was a connecting link in the affairs of almost a century of years. She was from early girlhood a consistent member of Ebeneezer M.E. Chruch and was beloved by neighbors and friends.
She raised a large family of children, of whom there are eight now living, with many grandchildren, about sixty-five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was buried at her old home on Friday last, the funeral services conducted by her pastor, Rev. Rufus Bracley, amid a large gathering of relatives and friends. The floral offerings were very pretty coming from friends far and near. She has many relatives now living in Weldon to whom we extend sympathy in their bereavement and congratulations for the life os such a mother in Israel.
