Robert Bassett
Robert "Bob" "Bobby" W. Bassett was born on June 13, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts, to loving parents Theodore R. Bassett and Martha M. (Frye) Bassett. As the second son, Bob brought joy and light to his family.
Bob graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. It was after his service that he met his soulmate, Diane D. (Fairhurst) Bassett. They shared a beautiful love story, marrying on September 1, 1962. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Dineene (Bassett) Collins, (Joseph Collins), Celeste Bassett, Robert (Kyle) Bassett, Erin Bassett, and Yvette Bassett.
Bob was a devoted grandfather to Sasha (King) Earnest (Trey Earnest), Tyler King, and Kyra Bassett. His heart expanded even further with the arrival of his great-grandchildren: Jackson Earnest, Simeon Earnest, and Ezra Earnest. He also cherished being a father figure to Denise and Lee Carrington and their children, Trevor, Juli, and Aiden.
Bob's legacy is rich with love and family. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Theodore R. Bassett, Jr. He leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Bob dedicated 31 years to the MBTA, but his true passions lay in his hobbies. He found joy in woodworking, traveling, hunting, archery, reading, and staying fit. Above all, he treasured the time spent playing board games and cards with his family and friends, creating countless cherished memories.
On June 15, 2024, Bob passed away peacefully at the age of 85, with his beloved wife, Diane, by his side in their home in Middleboro, Massachusetts. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and family, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
