Mr. James Hunt Bass, 87
BASS, JAMES HUNT, of Hoover passed away on March 16, 2009. Mr. Bass was born January 10, 1922 in Hattiesburg, MS lived in Brookhaven and graduated from high school in Jackson. He attended Millsaps College until he enlisted in the USMC in January, 1942. He served in WWII overseas from September 1942 - November 1944. He was in battles at Vella Vella and Saipan Islands and was honorably discharged in September 1945.
He met his future wife Annie Dillard Bass in Jackson, MS they were married December 27, 1947 they started off in New Orleans, LA, where he graduated from Tulane University. They moved to Birmingham where he was employed by U.S. Steel in Fairfield. In 1959 they moved to Bluff Park where they were active members of BPUMC.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Thurman Bass and Neva Thompson Bass of Jackson, MS; 2 brothers, Homer Thompson Bass of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Edwin Louis Bass of Arkansas City, KS. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Annie Dillard Bass, daughter, Melissa Smith (Gene), son, Greg Bass (Kelly) brother-in-law Morris Dillard, Hamden, CT; 5 grandchildren, Allison Smith, Jim Smith, Bradley Smith, Cameron Bass and Tyler Bass. Service will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with visitation being Thursday March 19, 2009 from 5-7pm. Reid Crotty officiating. Ridout's Elmwood Chapel directing.
