Last Rites Held In Momeyer For Sidney P. Bass
Prominent Citizen Dies At Home Tuesday
Funeral services were held at the Momeyer Baptist Church this afternoon (Thursday) for Sidney P. Bass, prominent farmer and merchant who died late Tuesday afternoon of a heart attack. He was 63 years of age.
The final rites were conducted by the Rev. E.G. Willis, former pastor of the Momeyer Baptist Church, and the Rev. J.C. Brooks, present pastor. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
Members of the board of deacons of the Momeyer Baptist Church served as active and honorary pall bearers. Mr. Bass was a charter member of the Momeyer church and served on the board of deacons for a number of years.
Mr. Bass was well known throughout the county and this section of the State as a leading merchant and farmer. With his brother, Bob Bass, he founded and operated the Bass Brothers farm store in Momeyer and had been active in the management of the business.
He had served several terms as a member of his district school committee.
Survivors include his wife, the former Annie Hinton; two daughters, Mrs. James W. Matthews and Mrs. Erwin Bass of Momeyer; five sons, L.R. Bass of Nashville, Harold, Wesley and Larry, all of Momeyer, and Paul Bass of the U.S. Navy; one brother, J.R. Bass of Momeyer; and 12 grandchildren.
