Stephen Durward Bass

Stephen Durward Bass, 80, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Monday afternoon, March 5, 2012, at North Okaloosa Medical Center.
Durward was born in Holt, Fla., on Dec. 16, 1931, to the late Joe and Carrie Lou (Mount) Bass. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force, and worked in civil service on Eglin Air Force Base until retiring in 1982. He was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Durward loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but his greatest love and joy were his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Bass; and two brothers, Calvin and Harvey Bass. Durward is survived by his wife, Chloette Bass of Crestview; his sons, Steve (Debbie) Bass of Satsuma, Ala., and Michael (Suzie) Bass of Crestview; two grandchildren, Sam and Elizabeth Bass; step-grandchildren, Kari (Ed) Chapman, and BJ (Carol) Hamblin; stepchildren, Cynthia (Randall) Culpepper, of Stafford, Va., and Lynn (Stephen) Manley of Richmond, Va.; brothers, Farrell (Carol) Bass of Tallahassee, Fla., and Farris (Betty) Bass of Ocala, Fla.; sisters, Carolyn Griffith and Delores Aaron, both of Crestview; and other loving family members and friends.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Patrick Pfrimmer and the Rev. George Katzman officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery in Crestview.
Flowers are welcome, or friends who wish may contribute to the Building Fund at Woodlawn Baptist Church, in Durward's memory.
