Martha Bassett
GRACE - Martha Oliver Bassett, 87, of Grace, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007, at Spring Creek Manor in Soda Springs. She was born May 9, 1920, at Filer, Idaho, the daughter of Claude P. and Marie Delaney Oliver. Martha had lived in Filer, Idaho, until graduating from high school in 1938. She lived in Albion, Idaho, while attending college until graduating with her teaching certificate. In 1940, she moved to Lago, where she lived with the Ed Meecham family and Lou Bitton family until her marriage to Carl "Bud" Bassett, May 25, 1945, in Pocatello, Idaho. He passed away April 23, 1979. She had been a teacher and rancher and taught 22 years at Thatcher, Grace and Soda Springs; and had taught in Bancroft, Idaho for the last 22 years. She was a member of the "Cow Bells" and was an avid Jazz fan. She loved cats, dogs, watching birds, gardening and all kinds of books. She loved spending time with Paul and Angie and their girls. Martha is survived by Angie (Paul) Mendenhall, Grace; Cody (Sarah) Somsen, Delco; Steve and Louise Somsen, Wayan, Van (Geli) Harris, Bar Num, Wyo. Martha is also survived by nephews, Richard Pintard Oliver, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Mark J. (Sharon) Oliver, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a niece, Jeanne (Robert) Mueller, Mandeville, La.; sisters-in-law, Grace Bassett Newey, Canon City, Colo., Esther Jeanne Oliver, Mandeville, Colo.; also several great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Claude P. Oliver II and Mark J. Oliver. The family suggest donations may be made to the Grace Library. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 2 at noon at the Williams LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call on Thursday evening, Nov. 1 at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m., and on Friday at the Williams Ward Chapel from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., prior to services. Burial will be in the Lago Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
