Edward Lloyd Bass Sr.
Edward Lloyd Bass Sr., 78, of the 19500 block of Ivor Road, died May 28, 1997, at his home.
He was born in Chowan County, N.C., the son of the late Kader Richard and Candace Perry Bass. Mr. Bass was an Army veteran of World War II and had retired as the town sergeant of Courtland. He was a former deacon of Courtland Baptist Church, a charter member of the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Courtland Ruritan Club.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine ''Emily'' Hancock Bass; daughter, Jean Carole Bass Rawls and her husband, Chip, of Chesapeake; son, Edward Lloyd Bass Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Courtland; two stepdaughters, Dianne Guse of Williamsburg and Donna Howell of Courtland; two stepsons, Dean Vaughan of Virginia Beach and Douglas Vaughan of Courtland; sister, Doris B. Hennaman of Providence Forge; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Talmage A. Bass; four sisters and six brothers.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Gary Powell and the Rev. Thomas Caulkins. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
