Marcus Franklin Bass Sr.
Marcus Franklin Bass Sr., 84, of the 100 block of Gum Pond Road, died Jan. 6, 2004, in the Skilled Nursing Facility at Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Mr. Bass was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Quinton T. and Bessie Pierce Bass. A retired farmer and commercial fisherman, Mr. Bass was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Elsie and Elizabeth Bass and two brothers, Graham and Warner Bass preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Ruth Lane Bass; three daughters, Joyce Lilly and husband Shelton of Newport News, Ruth B. Jordan and husband Hubert Lee of Edenton and Peggy B. Bunch and husband Don of Elizabeth City; a son, Marcus F. "Mark" Bass Jr. and wife Arlene of Edenton; four grandchildren, Chad Jordan, Amy J. Chappell and husband Heath, Tina Maynard and husband Bryan and Maura K. Bass; a great-grandchild, Riley Maynard; three sisters, Edith B. White of Edenton, Dorothy B. Chappell of Belvidere and Hattie Ruth Owens of Hobbsville; and one brother, Percy Bass of Edenton.
A funeral will be held in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, Thursday at 2 p.m by the Rev. Meredith Garrett. Burial will follow in the Pierce-Bass-Bunch Family Ce- metery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and all other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, 113 Rocky Hock Church Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
