At the residence of John B. Webb, in Chowan county, on Thursday the 22d day of April, 1858, sister Mary Bass, daughter of the late John Bass, in her 45th year of her age. She had been afflicted for several years with consumption, but no confined until about three month before her death. Though, notwithstanding her sufferings, which cannot be described, she bore them with that degree of Christian meekness that should ever characterize those who profess to follow that Jesus who suffered so much for us. Sister Bass was one of the number that profess hope in Christ during the revival of 1833, and united with the church at Ballard?s Bridge, then under the care of Elder Miles Welch ? from which she was dismissed, and became one of the constituent of the church at Rockahock in 1835. In her death the church has lost one of its most useful members as a sister. She leaves a lonely sister, together with two brothers and a number of dear friends, to mourn their loss, though they all can cherish a good hope that their loss is her eternal gain.
