The Biblical Recorder, Raleigh, North Carolina, June 21, 1855
Died
Departed this life on the 23d May, 1855, after a protracted illness of about five or six months, bro. Jacob Bass of Chowan County, in the 49th year of his age ? having been a member of the Baptist Church at Rockahock about 22 years. He was a component member of the Church at its constitution in 1835. He leaved a wife and three children, together with a large circle of friends to mourn their loss although they mourn not as those which have no hope. True, bro. Bass had many trials as is common to mortal life, yet he seemed to bear them with Christian fortitude, his seat was seldom vacated at the house of God, where his name was enrolled ? but he is gone, we trust to that seat prepared for those that love and obey the Lord Jesus:
Adieu to all things here below,
My Saviour calls and I must go
To the spirit land where Jesus dwells,
I hope his praise forever swells.
Adieu to things on earth combined,
I hope by Saviour?s arms to find,
In which to dwell forever more,
An sing my sufferings all are over. J.B.W.
