Percy William Henry Bassett, living at 126 Paris St., Montreal, Quebec, born 6th August 1879 in Broughton, England. Next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Edith Bassett, living at the same address. He was a painter; already belonging to the Active Militia, 4th field Co. C.E. He stated he was willing to be vaccinated and inoculated, that he never served in any Military Force, that he understood the nature and terms of his engagement and that he was willing to be attested to serve in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditonary Force. He signed this declaration on 6 June 1916.
Age 73 years and 10 months; 5 ft. 9 3/4 ins.; girth 36 ins. range of expansion 4 ins. Dark complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair. Scar on right forearm, tatoo (anchor) on left forearm. Religious affiliation: Church of England. He was declared fit to serve. He was assigned to the 5th Pioneer Battalion.
Dies Three Days Before Son Returns
Just three days prior to the return of his son from the European war theatre, Percy Bassett, husband of Edith Brown Budd of Billings Bridge, passed away at a local hospital on Thursday in his 68th year after a brief illness. The son, Pte. Leonard Bassett of the South Saskatchewean Regiment, infantry, was listed as a stretcher case in a group of repats who returned to Ottawa last night. Pte. Bassett's wife, Mrs. Ruth C. Bassett, resides at Billings Bridge.
Born and educated in Lancashire, England, Mr. Bassett came to Canada 36 years ago and resided in this district ever since. He married Edith Brown Budd in England 46 years ago and came to Canada with her. She survives him. He was a painter and decorator by trade and attended St. Matthew's Anglican church.
Surviving him in addition to his wife and son Leonard is one other son overseas, he is Pte. Percy Bassett with the RCASC; six daughters, Mrs. Donald Campbell; Mrs. H. MacDougall; Mrs. T. Flemming; and Mrs. O. Carsteen, all of Billings Bridge; Mrs. M. Villeneuve of Ottawa; and Miss Violet Bassett at home; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Channon of Montreal and 10 grandchildren.

Thursday, April 19, 1945, in hospital, Percy Bassett, husband of Edith Brown Budd of Billings Bridge, Ont. in his 68th year. Resting at Fred N. Garrett Funeral Home, 584 Somerset St., West, from where funeral service will be held Monday, April 23, at 2 p.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery.
