Martha M. Bassett, 92
Retired cafeteria supervisor; senior center, church volunteer
MASHPEE ? Martha M. (Frye) Bassett, 92, a resident of Mashpee, died Thursday at Harborside Health Care in Mashpee.
She was the wife of the late Theodore R. Bassett for 55 years.
Mrs. Bassett was born, raised and educated in Mashpee. She lived in New York City and later moved to Boston. In her earlier years, she worked for Jordan Marsh as an elevator operator.
Mrs. Bassett later worked as a cafeteria supervisor for the main branch of First National Bank of Boston. She retired in the early in the early 1970?s and moved to Mashpee in the late 1980s.
She was a member of the Mashpee Baptist Church and the Mashpee Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She did volunteer work for the Mashpee Senior Center, for which she received a citation from the commonwealth. She also did volunteer work for the Mashpee Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bassett enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling.
Surviving are two sons, Robert W. Bassett of Middleboro and Theodore R. Bassett Jr. of Gainseville, Fla.; three sisters, Lora Andrade of Pocasset, Doris Middleton and Ruth Lewis, both of Mashpee; six brothers, Lawrence, Milton and Daniel Frye, all of Falmouth, Curtis Frye of Mashpee, Bernard Frye of Los Angeles and Betram Frye of Fayetteville, N.C.; nine-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday ni the Mashpee Baptist Church, Great Neck Road, Mashpee.
Burial is in the Old Indian Cemtery, Mashpee.
Visiting hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Monday in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills.
