Hemet - Walter Bassett
Walter George Bassett, 69, died Friday of cancer at his residence in Hemet. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet handled arrangements. Burial was in Riverside National Cemetery.
Mr. Bassett, who was born in Dover, N.H., lived in California for 49 years, including 30 in Hemet. He was a general contractor specializing in painting and interior design for 55 years, including 30 in Hemet. He servied in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. He enjoyed traveling, snow skiing and bowling. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Hemet.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia; daughters, Deborah Raymond and Michelle Bassett Bruce, both of Hemet; one grandchild; three brothers, Harold of Hemet, Ralph of Lee, N.H., and Herbert of South Berwick, Maine; and five sisters, Barbara Durant of Torrance, Louise Gobbi of Portsmouth, N.H., Bobbie Robie of Barrington, N.H., and Doris Bassett and Shirley Davis, both of Dover, N.H.
