- William Bass Sr. (Sarah) ? on June 2, 1843, at age 69, Sarah Shackleford Bass, widow of William Bass, Sr., applied for pension. She was born 10 May 1761 in Chesterfield County, Va., moved to Powhatan County about 1814. She had married Wm. Bass in October 1789. William Bass died 10 May 1839. John Bass, brother of William (age 81 in 1843) certified that he was present when Wm. and Sarah were married; and that he and brother William had served together throughout most of their military service. Sarah Bass said that William had been drafted about April 1779 in Chesterfield County, served in Capt. Creed Haskins? company of Militia 3 months; again called out in February 1781, serving in Capt. David Patterson?s company and Col. Robert Goode?s Regiment. Discharged in March. A week or two later again in service in same company, this time for 10 months. Pension granted to Sarah Bass, 25 March 1844.

Will of William Bass, 1839
In the name of God Amen I William Bass Senr. of Chesterfield County and State of Virginia, being weak in body, but sound in mind and memory thanks be to God calling to mind the mortality of the body, and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this as my last Will and testament in the following manner.
1st, my Will is that my body be decently interred after my death and all my just debts paid by my Executors hereinafter named
2nd, I give unto my wife Sarah J Bass all of my estate of every description whatsoever, which I may be possessed of at the time of my death during her natural life, and after her death, my Will is that all the property which I leave her may be equally divided between all my children, except my daughter Judith Stovall, who has received her full portion in advance.
Lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Thos. W. Bass and William F. Tucker sole Executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this the 16th day of March one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine.

In Chesterfield County Court August the 12th 1839 The last Will and testament of Wm Bass Senr. deceased was presented in Court & proved by the oath of Daniel B Goode a subscribing Witness and ordered to be recorded continue
And in said Court October the 14th 1839 the said Will as further and fully proved by the oath of Mark F. Flournoy also a subscribing witness and ordered to be recorded
And in said Court December the 9th 1839 On motion of Thos. W Bass one of the Executors named in the last will and testament of Wm Bass Sr. decd. who entered into bond with security conditioned as the law directs and took the oath required by law certificate is granted him for obtaining probate of said Will in due form
