Thomas Bass Senr Will
In the name of God, Amen, I Thomas Bass Senr of Chesterfield county being of sound mind and disposing memory, do hereby make this my last will and testament, in manner and form following:
Item 1st I give and bequeath to my daughter Judith Robertson one bed & furniture, and one cow and calf, one Ewe and lamb, ten dollars in place of a saddle, one Flax wheel, and one chest, all of which she has in her possession.
2nd: I give and bequeath to Robert J. Wilkinson, who married my daughter Mary Bass, who is now dead, one bed and furniture, one sides saddle, one Flax wheel, one chest, and ten dollars in place of a cow and calf, all of which he has in possession
3rd: I give and bequeath to my son Richard Bass, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, and one chest, all of which he has in possession, also one negro girl Clarissa which is given up to heirs.
4th: I give and bequeath to my son Edward Bass one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, and my negro boy named Elam all of which he has in possession.
5th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Bass, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, and one saddle, and she is to take a negro out of my estate about the value of one hundred and fifty dollars.
6th: I give and bequeath to my son Lineus Bass one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, and one negro boy named Anthony, which he has in possession.
7th: I give and bequeath to my son Archer Bass, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, and one negro boy named Randolph all of which he has in possession.
8th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth W. Bass one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, one chest, one saddle, and one negro out of my estate, of the value of one hundred and fifty dollars.
9th: I give and bequeath to my son Robert Bass one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb and one negro girl named Hannah, all of which he has in possession.
10th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Maria Bass one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, one chest, one saddle, and one negro out of my state, wit the price of one hundred and fifty dollars.
11th: I give and bequeath to my four grand children (viz) James E. Bass, Isham E. Bass, Mary J. Bass and Thomas M. Bass, children of my son Thomas Bass deceased, one hundred dollars each to be paid to them as they respectively arrive to the age of twenty-one years, with lawful interest to commence on twelve months from the division of my estate, which money I wish my executors hereinafter named, to hold in hand until they become of ages.
12th: It is my will and desire that all the balance of my estate not yet disposed of should be equally divided between my eight children (viz, Richard Bass, Edward Bass, Lineus Bass, Archer Bass, Robert Bass, Nancy Bass, Elizabeth M. Bass and Maria Bass, except my land which I now reside on, which is to be equally divided amongst my five sons, on their paying the four hundred dollars bequeathed to my four grand children to wit, the children of my son Thomas Bass decd, under the following in remembrance (viz) that if any of my daughters remaining single at my death, they shall half of my dwelling houses and a garden, and the privileges of firewood, so long as they may remain single. And lastly, I nominate and appoint my three sons Edward Bass, Archer Bass and Robert, Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills, heretofore made by me.
In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, this 2nd day of February 1828.
