Mrs. William Bass Passes
Frances Elizabeth Collins Bass, 83, passed away quietly at the San Juan County Hospital, Monday, July 11. Mrs. Bass has been in failing health for some time and death was attributed to causes incident to old age.
Mrs. Bass was born April 22, 1866, in a small town in Mississippi, where she lived until she married William Riley Bass, in 1889, when they moved to Texas. They were living in White Oak, Texas, when they heard and accepted the gospel message of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After joining the Church they continued to reside in Texas until 1916 when they moved with their family to LaSal, Utah, where they resided the remainder of their lives, until Mr. Bass died last November.
They had been a very devoted couple all their married lives and when her mate passed on something left Mrs. Bass. She showed very little interest in life from that time on, stating on several occasions that she wished to join her husband.
To Mr. and Mrs. Bass were born 11 children, nine of whom they reared, and six of whom are still living. It is expected that they will all be in Monticello for the funeral.
Mrs. Bass has lived a pioneer life and has faced poverty and hardship not known to many of the modern generation. Through trial and all manner of difficulties she remained steadfast to her convictions and belief, never wavering in ideals, and teaching her children to become the staunch citizens they are today.
Mrs. Bass is survived by three daughters and three sons, 31 grand-children and 12 great=-grandchildren. Her sons are: Ben and Dan both of West Lake, La., and John Bass, of Brenham, Texas. Her three living daughters are: Mrs. A.B. Barton of Monticello, Mrs. Merrill Stevens of Blanding, and Mrs. J.D. Harris of Price.
The funeral will be at Monticello and interment will be at the LaSal Cemetery.
