Earnest Bass Sr.
SUFFOLK ? Earnest Augusta Bass Sr., 68, of 1960 Cherry Grove Road died Monday in a hospital.
He was a native of Norfolk County and had retired from Seaboard Airline Railroad as a carman. He was a member of Portsmouth First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen Local 188 and Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898, and was president of the Bass Hunt Club.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Hurst Bass; four sons, Waverly Gerald Bass, Kenneth Paul Bass and Jerry Francis Bass Sr., all of Suffolk, and Earnest A. Bass Jr. of South Mills, N.C.; two sisters, Gladys Passmore of Rock Hill, S.C., and Christine Langston of Chesapeake; three brothers, Earl S. Bass of Chesapeake, Albert Bass of Portsmouth and Leonard W. Bass of Roanoke; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Portsmouth First Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Nelson F. Fields. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
The family will be at Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at a son?s home, 1068 Cypress Chapel Road, Suffolk.
