A native of Norfolk County, he was a retired welder and a member of Indiana Methodist Church. He was a son of Jesse L. and Mrs. Carrie L. Anderson Bass. In addition to his widow, Alma Jenkins Bass, he is survived by a son, Jesse Vernie Bass Jr. of Portsmouth; a foster daughter, Mrs. Brenda Poulter of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Passmore of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Carrie lyles of Norfolk and Mrs. Christine Langston of Portsmouth; and seven brothers, the Rev. Leonard W. Bass of Roanoke and Justin L. Bass, Alonza C. Bass, Lindsay L. Bass, Earl Bass, Albert Bass and Ernest Bass of Portsmouth. The body was taken to Snellings Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Indiana Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family plot at Yadkins, Norfolk County.
