      The Rev. Fredric C. Shirley, age 85, of New Albany, died Monday, June 22, 2026, at Mount Carmel St. Ann?s Hospital. Born in Boston, MA, on May 20, 1941, he was preceded in death by his parents Fredric T. (Edna) Shirley, and Ethel B. (Edmund) Jansen. Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Diana Frangoulis Shirley; son John F. (Susanne Hershey) Shirley, Lowell, MA; daughter Melissa L. Shirley, Dayton, OH; brother Dr. Eric A. (Susan) Shirley, Hanover, NH; sister Christine (Frank) DiSimone, Vass, NC; and sister Pamela (Robert) Wendell, Austin, TX. He received his MBA from SUNY Binghamton University, and his BS in Accounting from Bentley University, Waltham, MA. Fred grew up in and raised his children in New England, relocating to Ohio in 1996 before retiring as Project Manager from Nationwide Insurance. A passionate and frequent duplicate bridge player, Fred also enjoyed fishing and boating on Hoover Reservoir, reading, and playing on the computer. Fred was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Southern Ohio and served at multiple parishes in Central Ohio. He was active in the Kairos Prison Ministry, The Order of St. Luke the Physician, and the American Red Cross; Fred was also instrumental in establishing the Latino Homework Help Club at St. Edwards?s in Whitehall.

      A Celebration of Life and Ministry with Holy Eucharist for Deacon Fred will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 6, 2026, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 5101 Johnstown Road, New Albany, with The Rt. Rev. Kristin Uffelman-White, presiding, and The Rev. Bruce Smith, assisting. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service until 4:30 P.M.

      Fred?s life and ministry was guided by the words of Matthew 25:35?36, ?For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me?. Accordingly, Fred established the Shirley Family Foundation to support a wide variety of organizations who do the work of serving and uplifting our fellow human beings. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to the work of the Foundation by making a donation to The Shirley Family Foundation, ℅ All Saints Episcopal Church, 5101 Johnstown Rd, New Albany, OH 43054.
