Edith ?Irene? Bass passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 20th, 2025. She was 80 years old. Irene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, known for her radiant smile, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Irene spent her life surrounded by the people she loved. She was married to her devoted husband, Jimmie Bass, for 59 wonderful years. Together they built a life filled with love, faith, and cherished memories.
Irene is survived by her husband Jimmie, her daughter Melody Bass (Vickie) of Wilmington, and her son Jimmy Bass (Teresa) of Leland. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Denver Crisco (Danielle) and Jimmy Bass III, and a cherished great-grandmother to Wesley Crisco (Sam), Bradley Crisco, Colton Crisco, Kaylee Crisco, Brian Segars, Kenzie Bass, and Cameron Parker.
She is also survived by her brother Earl Hewett (Bonnie) and her sister and best friend Jackie Roberts.
Irene was known for her joyful spirit and kind soul. She found happiness in life?s simple pleasures?gardening in the sunshine, cooking home-cooked meals for her family, and reading her Bible with devotion. Her faith was strong, and her love was deep. Irene had a special way of making everyone feel welcomed and cared for. Whether through a warm hug, a hot plate of food, or a few thoughtful words, she touched the lives of everyone around her.
She especially loved celebrating holidays with her grandchildren. Easter was one of her favorite times of year, and she took great joy in hand-making Easter baskets, carefully filling each one with love. At Christmastime, she was famous for her beautifully wrapped presents, often topped with her signature bows, chosen thoughtfully for each child. These moments created lasting memories her family will treasure forever.
Above all, Irene found her greatest joy in her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments with pride. She was the heart of the family?a constant source of love, strength, and guidance.
A graveside service honoring Irene?s life will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Wilmington, NC. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
Irene will be missed more than words can express, but her legacy of kindness, faith, and unconditional love will live on in all of us.
