Clair J. Bassett, 90, of Somerset was called home on January 7, 2018 at The Patriot. Born April 26, 1927 in Connellsville, he is the son of Cline and Arta (Pletcher) Bassett. Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers R. Paul and Clarence E. Bassett. He is survived by his loving wife the former Dolores Wertz to whom he was married 68 years, daughter, Gloria (Robert) Pritts, Rockwood, son, Daryl (Nancy Ptak) Bassett, Ohiopyle; sister Helen Trimmer, Silver Springs, Md; grandson Adam (Liz Diesel) Pritts of Somerset; granddaughter, Katie Bassett of Ohiopyle. His eyes lit up when great-grandchildren, Jake, Ellic and Sawyer Pritts, and Evie and Miles Diesel were around. Clair was proud to serve 13 years in the US Army serving in WWII and Korea and enjoyed his tours of duty in Austria, Germany and Italy. His love of hunting and fishing led him from and oil delivery business in York, PA to Laurel Hill Trout Farm in Somerset which he owned and operated from 1964-1990. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Bakersville where he served on council for many years, past trustee of the Bakersville Community Grove, past member of the Bakersville Fire Department, US and PA Trout Farmer's Associations, Laurel Ridge Sportsmen and Laurel Mt. Mission Team. Friends received 10a.m.-12 noon Wednesday at the Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Bakersville where a service will immediately follow at 12 noon with Reverend Dena M. Gable officiating. Interment Bakersville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 3096 Glades Pike, Somerset, PA 15501. R. Paul Bassett
R. Paul Bassett, 74, of Munford, retired aviation mechanic and chief petty officer from the Navy after 22 years and former employee of Knapp Shoe Co., died Monday at Methodist Healthcare-North. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Georgian Hills Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher, with burial in Northridge/Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington. Northridge/Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington has charge. He was a member of Gideons International. Mr. Bassett. the husband of Phyllis Basset for 51 years, also leaves a daughter, Deborah Smityh of Munford; a sister, Helen Trimmer of Silver Spring, Md., two brothers, Clair Bassett of Somerset, Pa., and Clarence Bassett of Sebring, Fla., and two grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to Georgian Hills Baptist Church, Gideons International or the American Cancer Society.
