      Bayless E. Kirtley Sr.
Kirtley - Bayless E. Kirtley, Sr. left this world July 1, 2002, to join his Heavenly Father and be reunited with Verlyne, his beloved wife of 51 years. Born January 7, 1920, in Stroud, Oklahoma, he was the only child of William Bayless and Edith Fields Kirtley. They moved to Oklahoma City when he was a boy, where he attended Classen High School and later, the University of Oklahoma before enlisting in the Army. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged a captain in 1945. A free Mason since 1942 and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite and India Shrine Temple, Bayless enjoyed a career in the wholesale lumber business for more than 50 years. His impish smile and sense of humor endeared him to everyone who knew him, and his enthusiasm and love for life were contagious. He is survived by four children, Bayless E. Kirtley, Jr. & wife Judy, Peggy Fulton and husband Rick, all of Oklahoma City; Robert B. Kirtley and wife Pam of Wichita, Kansas; and Caroline Sundberg and husband Scott of Pass Christian, Mississippi; as well as six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a multitude of friends. He will be greatly missed by all. A natural born storyteller, Bayless had many stories to share with his family and friends, that got better with each telling, and his audience was boundless and eager to listen. If he didn't have enough time in this life to tell them all, he is undoubtedly sharing them with his family and friends in Heaven right now. Services will be held Friday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m., in the Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, North Colonial Chapel, 13125 North MacArthur, Oklahoma City, with the Reverend Charles Graves officating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memory Gardens. Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, 13125 N. MacArthur 720-1439.
