Mrs. Abbie Bassett, whose maiden name was Wells, was born in
Susquehanna County, PA, August 1, 1834, brought an infant to Janesville, WI.,
in a few years moved to Lanark, IL, and here married Alfred Bassett. They came
to Benton County about 39 years ago and settled in Eden township, and also
lived in Taylor township across the river, sixteen years. Her husband died May
13, 1891, and Mrs. Bassett came to Vinton 12 years ago and has resided here
since. She spent the winter with her son in Davenport and died there last week
after a short illness. Children mourning, Walter Bassett, Polk township; Wm.
J. Bassett, Vinton; Edwin H. Bassett, Muscatine; Henry K. Bassett, Vinton;
Frank D. Bassett, Davenport; Fred Bassett, Davenport. Funeral at Methodist
church Sunday afternoon was attended by old friends.
