When Howard Bassett, 21, went into the Army he made it unanimous in the family, the Hastings Daily Tribune explained. His six brothers served during World War II.

Kathleen Erdel is Future Bride
Mr. and Mrs.Joseph F. Erdel have announced the engagement of their daughter, Kathleen Ann, to Howard Thomas Bassett of Hastings, Neb., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bassett of Hastings.
The bride attended Creighton University and was graduated from the College of St. Mary.
Mr. Bassett was graduated from Mary Lanning Hospital School of Nursing in Hastings and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Anesthesia.
The couple will be married Oct. 10.

Hastings, Neb., will be the home of Howard Thomas Bassett and his bride, the former Miss Kathleen Ann Erdel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Francis Erdel. They were married Saturday.
The Rev. Richard Arkfield officiated at the 12:30 p.m. ceremony at Holy Cross Church. A reception was held at the Elks Club.
Miss Shirley Erdel of McHenry, Ill., was maid of honor for her sister. Bridesmaids were another sister, Miss Mary Erdel, and Miss Christine Cook, the latter of Denver, Colo.
The bridegroom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Bassett of Hastings. His best man was Herbert Hupf of Hastings. Ushers were Lawrence Jaixon, Gerald Grone and Owen Waechter, all of Hastings, and the bride's brother, William Erdel.

Howard T. Bassett
Hastings resident, Howard T. Bassett, 74, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at his home. Howard was born April 14, 1931 in Adams County, northeast of Hastings, Nebraska to Arthur and Gladys (Rynearson) Bassett.
Howard graduated from Hastings High School in1949. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from December 6, 1951 until December 2, 1953. He returned to Hastings and graduated from Mary Lanning School of Nursing in 1958 and in 1961 from St. Joseph Hospital School of Anesthesia in Omaha, Nebraska. On October 10, 1970, he married Kathleen A. Erdel in Omaha, Nebraska. He was an Anesthetist at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1123 and was a past Grand Knight in 1967-1969, and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of American Legion Post #11 where he served as past Commander, Elks Lodge #159, and a past member of Southern Hills. He was a life long Hastings resident.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger, James LaVerne, John, and Robert Bassett.
Survivors are: his wife, Kathleen Bassett - Hastings, NE; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Bruce Thiebauth - Elkhorn, NE; Lori and Joseph Lomax - Saginaw, TX; and grandchildren, Megan Thiebauth and Kaitlin Thiebauth; brothers and sister-in-law, Donald Bassett - Ridgecrest, CA; Harold and Donna Bassett - Hastings, NE; sisters and broher-in-law, Dorese Willis - Rupert, ID; Mary and Frank Mazur - Tilton, NH.
