He received a Masters Degree in Chemistry from George Peabody College (Vanderbilt) and a Ph.D. in Botany and Plant Pathology from Michigan State University. He worked at MSU, Lansing Community College and Howell High School. Sam was a long-time member of the Holmes Road Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was a devoted Bible scholar with a passion for personal ministries. In 2008, Sam married Patti McClelland, his devoted wife. The last five years, he and Patti have travelled extensively visiting friends and family.
