Young Durham Soldier Killed in Viet Action

Private David H. Bass, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Bass of Route 4, Old Raleigh Road, was killed in action Sunday in Vietnam, his family was informed Monday by the Defense Department.,
A 1966 graduate of Southern High School, Bass entered the Army in October of last year, and was assigned to the Fourth Infantry Division. He was a native of Durham.
Surviving in addition to his parents are four brothers, Randolph Forsythe Bass, John A. Bass Jr., James Kenneth Bass and Robert Wayne Bass, all of Durham; two sisters, Mrs. Sandra Justice and Miss Penelope Bass, both of Durham; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Bass of Fayetteville; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Omah Pope of Durham.
The body will be returned to Durham for funeral services and burial.
