Mrs. Nannie Ruth Pope Bass, 94, a resident of 2059 Torredge Road, died Tuesday afternoon at the Treyburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Mrs. Bass was a lifelong resident of Durham and the daughter of the late Robert Henry Pope and the late Omar Forsythe Pope.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Almon Bass, Sr., a son, David H. Bass and a daughter, Penny Bass Ennis. Mrs. Bass was a homemaker. She was a member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church where she had been a member of the Choir and the WMU. Mrs. Bass was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Surviving is a daughter, Sandra A. Justice, of Timberlake; four sons, Randy Bass and wife, Dorothy, of Timberlake, John Bass and wife, Jean, of Durham, Ken Bass and wife, Susan, of Stem and Bob Bass and wife, Carolyn, of Durham; sister, Rachel Maillet and husband, Hank, of Winston Salem; brother, John Pope and wife, Virginia, of Lake Gaston, Virginia; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Clements Funeral Home Chapel in Durham with the Reverend Jeff McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
