Mildred E. Bass
Methuen ? Mildred Ellen (Cotter) Bass, 81, of Methuen, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013, at Concord Health Care in Concord, Mass.
Born and educated in South Boston, she was the daughter of James and Norberta (Robinson) Cotter. She worked at ITT in Lawrence, then went on to be a waitress, hair dresser and then became the Director of the Division of Unemployment and Training which became ValleyWorks in Lawrence.
Mildred was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish/St. Theresa's Church in Methuen. She enjoyed returning to Castle Island, was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mildred was predeceased by the love of her life, John George Hatem, and is survived by her children, Patrick J. Bass and his wife, Lisa, of Hudson, N.H., David B. Bass and his wife, Janet, of Cape Coral, Fla., Richard D. Bass and his wife, Lisa, of Wilmington, Mass., James R. Bass and his wife, Susan, of Merrimack, N.H., John C. Hatem and his wife, Karen, of Lawrence, Mass., George T. Hatem and his wife, Cheryl, of Methuen and Rhonda J. Bass of Methuen, Mass.; two brothers, George Roland Cotter and his wife, Wendy, of Maryland and Donald Cotter and his wife, Patricia, of California; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Emily, Keith, Corey, Stephen, Megan, Jessica, Zachary, Carabella, Jamie and Krista; and one great-granddaughter, Ainsley.
Mildred was predeceased by her brother, Keith Cotter, and her sisters, Angelus Sullivan, Evelyn Heitz, Patricia Turgeon, Eileen Diehl and Kathleen LeBlanc.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or to the Castle Island Association, 1514 Columbia Rd., Boston, MA 02127. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA.
