He was a native of Wilson and lived in Durham most of his life. he was employed at American Tobacco Co. for 30 years. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery in Wilson by the Rev. W.B. Bussey. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Sallie H. Bass; a daughter, Miss Phyllis Bass of Durham; a son, John D. Bass Jr. of Bahama; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby B. Robbins of Wilson, Mrs. Dorothy B. Carlisle of Zebulon and mrs. Birty B. Gifford of Rocky Mount; and a brother, Dewey Bass of Wilson.
