Lois Jean Bassett
Riverton, NJ resident
Lois Jean Bassett, born Lois Jean Cowgill on January 28, 1924, in Dayton, Ohio to Fay Bryan Cowgill and Eugene Cowgill, passed away March 18, 2008. Her father worked for Sears and Roebuck and the family moved many times over the years, finally settling in the Philadelphia area. She attended Olney High School. She sang with several big bands before getting married. She married Milton Edward Bassett on April 7th, 1951. They first lived in Merchantville, NJ and finally settled in Maple Shade, NJ having two children, Fay Bassett and Vickie (Bassett) Coe. Lois enjoyed being a stay at home mom while raising her two daughters and being active in Brownies and a Girl Scout Leader. Over the years, she enjoyed bowling, winning some trophies and playing a card game called OH HELL, which she became an Alpha Master. She was active in Covenant Chapter 108 Order of Eastern Star. She moved to Bomytona Beach, Florida to take care of her mother and worked at Barnet Bank, retiring from the bank and returning to the Riverton area about twenty years ago. The past few you could see Lois taking long walks around Riverton, her favorite past time. She will be dearly missed by her family; daughter, Fay Bassett, Vickie (Bassett) Coe; her son-in-law, Douglas Coe; her grandchildren, Angel-Rose Spera, Aileen Fisher, and Ethan Coe. She will be missed by other family members and friends as well. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Saturday from 10:30 to 11:00 AM and to attend the Memorial Service Saturday, 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 5th Street and Morgan Ave., Palmyra, NJ. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Multiple Sclerosis Assoc. of America, 76 Haddonfield Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. Arrangements by Weber Funeral Home, Riverton.
