Gaylan Bass Crim
Gaylan Bass Crim passed away on March 9, 2025 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. She was born on September 2, 1953 to Virgil and May Bass and grew up in Rolling Meadows, IL. She earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Iowa State University. She spent many years working for a corn researcher at Iowa State University and later worked as a 911 dispatcher for Hamilton County.
In 1975 Gaylan married Lloyd Crim. They became avid volunteers for conservation causes in Iowa. They won many awards for their work including the Governor's Volunteer Award, Hagie Heritage Conservation Award and Olaf Smedal Award among others. Gaylan's special interest was the monitoring of trumpeter swans that were being reintroduced to the state of Iowa.
Gaylan died from effects of post radiation treatment for cancer. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; mother, May; sister, Linnea.
