Death of Mrs. E.J. Bassett
Well Known Houghton Woman and Old Resident is Summoned
Mrs. E.J. Bassett, 66, for almost three score years a resident of
Houghton, died at the family home on Ripley street yesterday morning at
4 o'clock.
The late Mrs. Bassett was born in Davenport, England. She came to the
United States when but seven years of age and has made her home in the
Copper Country ever since.
Surviving her are her husband, four daughters, one son and on brother.
They are Mrs. William Gordon, Duluth; Mrs. Clarence Donaway, Rock
Island, Ill.; Mrs. R.T. Johnson, San Francisco and Mrs. M.J. Bartelme,
of Freemont, O., daughter and Edward Bassett of Houghton, a son. Stephen
Mathews of Demmon, a brothers, also survives.
The late Mrs. Bassett was a charter member of the Lady Maccabees.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet.

Duluthian?s Mother Dies
Houghton, Mich., March 12 ? Mrs. Panzine Bassett, 67, native of England, long a resident of the Copper country, died Thursday. She was the wife of Edward J. Bassett, formerly in the livery business here, who survives with the following children: Four daughters, Mrs. William Gordon of Duluth, Mrs. Clarence Bonaway of Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. R.T. Johnson of San Francisco, and Mrs. M.J. Bartelme of Fremont, O., a son, Edward Bassett at home and a brother, Steven Matthews, living at the Boston mine location. Before her marriage she was Miss Panzine Matthews of a family that had made its home in Houghton for many years.
