On the cold morning of Tuesday, November 27, 2018, God summoned Hubie to take the straightened mountain road home to the Streets of Gold, where it is eternally warm with love and bright with his glorious light.
Hubert Bly “Hubie” Bass, 83, of Georges Creek, Malden reunited with his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Lucas Bass. Family was the strength behind Hubie's earthly and now his eternal life as his mother and father, Josephine and Bert Bass, met him on the shores of Heaven. Waiting for him also were his brother and sister, Tom Bass and Millie Warner.
During his homegoing journey of the past 10 days, his family never left his side with the inspirational support of the Hubbard Hospice House staff, cherishing his memory are son, Hubert “Rusty” Bass (Diana) of Kenna, his Daddy's girl, Kathy Holmes (Mark) of Charleston. However, it was the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were the true apples of Papaw's eyes: Kevin Bass of Huntington and his son Isaac, Melissa Sigmon (Brian) of Malden and their daughters, Brianna and Sarah, Randy Campbell (Amanda) of Malden and their son Lane and daughter Maggie Joyce. “Grandson” / nephew Adam Lucas (Joellen) of Charleston and their sons, Wyatt, Walker and daughter Annalee. Also surviving Hubie were his brother, James “Jim” of Elkview, half-brother Mike of St. Albans and half-sister Anna Tiffner of Elkview. The family would also like to express gratitude to Julie Meadows for her devotion and care for Hubie in the past few weeks and the multiple visits and compassion of his neighbor Billy Dunlap.
Hubie loved to talk and tell stories. He had fond memories of friends growing up on Georges Creek, his service in the Korean War, or his days as a dirt track racer across the region, his days as a welder with Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 625 and his days camping, fishing or just enjoying the peace on the Williams River in Pocahontas County. Some of his fondest memories were praising the Lord while attending church with Joyce at Mary Virginia Gospel Tabernacle.
His wishes were for a small family gathering following cremation. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful treatment and compassion of the Home Team of Frensius Kidney Care. The Bass family is indebted to the staff of Hubbard Hospice House for their extraordinary care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Hubie's memory be made to Hubbard Hospice House.
