John E. Bassett
Funeral services are being planned today for John E. Bassett, 73, of Rumney, father of John E. Bassett, Jr., of Portsmouth.
The elder Bassett was found dead Saturday in his Stinson Lake road home where he lived alone. Grafton County Medical Referee Leon M. Orton of Ashland said death was due to natural causes.
A former resident of Franklin, Bassett was born May 20, 1877, in Nashua. For many years he was employed in the Franklin paper mills before retiring and moving to Rumney two years ago.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias.
Survivors also include a daughter, Mrs. Michael Hall of Rumney; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Maurice Cate of Boscawen; two stepsons, Roger F. Durgin of Warner and Hayes J. Marston of Laconia; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie McFadden and Mrs. Delina Noyes, both of Laconia; two brothers, Joseph of Laconia and Mitchell of Bristol, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
