Devoted grandfather of Bob (Lon) Bass, Tiffany (Hans) Bukow, Mike (Heather) Grant, Denise (Troy) Mercer, Katie Giancola, Toni Giancola, Steve Bass, David Bass, Bryan Bass, Christine Bass, Sean Murray and Jenna Murray. Great-grandfather of five. Also survived by three sisters, many nieces and nephews. Highly decorated Army Veteran of World War II. Recipient of the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster and The Bronze Star Medal. member of American Legion Post #220. Retired employee of Republic (LTV) Steel. Visitation Monday, April 12, 2004 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Chapel, 11300 West 97th Lane (1/2 block west of U.S. 41/Wicker Avenue at 97th Street), St. John, Indiana. Funeral service Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Mark Wilkins officiating. Cemetery private. 219-365-3474.
