Mrs. Lorene Munn Bassett
Funeral services for Mrs. Lorene Munn Bassett, 99, where held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 1999, from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Brandon. Reverend Bernard Nail and Reverend Scott Jones officiated. Interment was made in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Jackson.
Mrs. Bassett passed away on Sunday, February 14, 1999, at Rankin Medical Center, following an extended illness. Mrs. Bassett was a native of Newton County and had lived in Brandon since 1950. She was a retired elementary teacher having taught in Newton, Jasper, Neshoba and Kemper Counties. After retiring from the Mississippi School systems, Mrs. Bassett taught in the Bureau of Indian Affairs for five years in Cibe, Arizona. It was quoted by her daughter, Mary, that she had been very fortunate and blessed to have had her as a wonderful mother and her best friend for all these years.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Crossman of Brandon; one sister, Mary Jo Samokar of Lexington, Kentucky; a number of nieces and nephews and long time friends.
Pallbearers were John Lanham, Jon Samokar, Robert Polson, Ray Munn, Ken Box and George Paris. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon was in charge.
