Martha Jean Bassett of Tustin passed away Thursday April 13, 2017 at Samaritas Senior Living in Cadillac. She was 89. She was born July 7, 1927 in Bay City, Michigan to Robert J. and Gertrude (Farrar) MacLaren.
Mrs. Bassett graduated from Millington High School and married William C. Bassett in 1946. She raised her family and worked locally in Millington, Michigan before moving to the Tustin area in the early 1970?s. Martha loved reading, crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She also enjoyed spending time outside, gardening, hunting, fishing and bird watching. Mrs. Bassett had a good heart. She was also a Detroit Tigers and Michigan State fan and loved her dogs. She was a member of the Tustin Sportsman?s Club and Millington Grange.
Martha is survived by her children: Barbara (Bill) McCarthy of Tustin, Sandra Bassett of Caro, William (Margo) Bassett of Vassar, Michael (Beverly) Bassett of Millington; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1985 and nine siblings: James, Kenneth and Donald McLaren, Roberta McLaren, Barbara Hennessey, Marjorie McLaren, Winnie Nash, Susie Morton and Theo Jensen.
In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place and private family services will be held at a later date. Her final resting place will be Burdell Township Cemetery in Tustin.
