      Mark Lee Bass

      Mark Lee Bass, 53, of Brazil died unexpectedly Tuesday Feb. 20, 2007, in the emergency room of Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 14, 1953, in Brazil the son of Theodore Mark Bass, Jr. and Iris "Jean" Hyde Bass. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1972. June 4, 1977, he married Rebecca Kathleen Porter on the front lawn of their home.

      As a young man he worked for Romas Farms and then Tech. Corp. He later worked for CBS until the plant closed. He was the supervisor in the work shop at the Clay County Learning Center for more than 19 years. He found his true calling working at the center and was an important part of many of the client's lives at the center. He later worked as custodian at Northview High School before health issue became too difficult. He began dialysis treatments in Dec. of 2006.

      Mark and Kathy were foster parents for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Mark was first and foremost a family man. On Sept. 20, 2006, he became Daddy to two sons Larry Dane Bass age 5 and Clint Theodore Bass age 2.

      On April 10, 1977, Easter Sunday, he was baptized into the Church of Christ where he served as trustee and assistant treasurer.

      Survivors include his wife Kathy Bass; sons, Larry Bass, Clint Bass and Joe Zimmerman; his mother, Iris Jean Bass of Center Point; one brother, and sister in law, Dane and Melissa Bass of Clay City; two nephews, Ryan Bass and wife Janice of Rosedale, and Joe Bass of Clay City; one niece, Meghan Bass of Clay City; one great-niece, Emma Bass; step-great-niece Maddison Wycoff of Rosedale; uncle, Bert Hyde and wife Margaret of Brazil; two aunts, Bertha Brashears and Leona Hyde both of Seelyville; three brothers-in-law, Jim Porter and wife Helen of Plainfield, Harry Porter and wife Ann of Greencastle, and David Porter and wife Luella of Chandler; three sisters-in-law, Mary Burk and husband Fred, Jr. of Seelyville, Shirley Lawson and husband Donald Ray of Brazil, and Jean Cox and husband Wayne of Plainfield; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

      He was preceded in death by his father Theodore Mark Bass, Jr, on Feb. 5, 2005; his in-laws Clint Arthur Porter, Sr. on July 13, 1982 and Audrie Lela Modesitt Porter on July 22, 1998; his best friend and fishing and hunting buddy Larry Michael Dec. 10, 2003.

      Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home with Brother Jim Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday prior to services. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the R
