Jerusha was born 10 Mar 1756 in New Haven, Connecticut. She died 3 Nov 1811 in New Haven, Connecticut. They are both buried in Grove Street Cemetery. He possibly married (2) Mary Bristol.
Samuel left no widow when he died but had the following children: Freeman C. Bassett, Bridgeport, Connecticut, Loley Bassett Plumb of New Haven, Jerusha Bassett Smith of New Haven, Anson Bassett of Sing Sing, New York, William Bassett of Denmark, New York, David Bassett of Dayton Ohio, and Samuel Bassett of Michigan. Arrears of pension were paid to Henry Fowler, atty. for the children. This was from a letter dated 11 Oct 1947 from Mrs. Kenneth F. Wood of West Barrington, Rhode Island.

Enlisted 1776, first part of Jan in 3rd Co. of state troops under Capt. Samuel Peck of Milford Fifth Battln. of Genl. Wardsworth's Regt. For 3 months. Marched to N. Y. in Genl. Waterbury's Brigade, then to Brooklyn where worked on defenses of Brooklyn Heights for 3 mos. and discharged in Brooklyn.
Then enlisted in first part of June at Milford under Capt. Peck for 6 mos. Soon to N. Y. in Genl. Waterbury's Brigade, in Sept. to Harlem, skirmish with British. Then to White Plains under Col. Douglass for remainder of 6 mos. and discharged there.
Enlisted 1779-4-4 under Capt. Peter Hepburn of Milford for 1 year - served in garrison at Ft. Edwards in Milford, constant service.
Certif. issued 1833-11-9 under act of 1832-6-7 Vol. 1, p. 24 of Conn. Men in Revol.
