Richard D. "Ike" Wheeler, 72, died Thursday, September 27, 2001, in his home. He was born June 13, 1929, in Conneaut, the son of Bernie and Eulah (Braden) Wheeler. Prior to retirement, Mr. Wheeler was employed by Olin Chemical as a pipe fitter. He also worked for Sears and DIY Home Warehouse. A veteran of the U.S. Army he was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 943. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice (Baker); two stepsons, Dean Nottingham of Conneaut and David Nottingham of Ashtabula; two stepdaughters, Terry Brake of Diamond and Pamela Mollick of Ashtabua; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Micky of Ashtabula and Robert of Florida; and a sister, Geraldine Nelson of Conneaut. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas; three brothers, Cyrus, Bernie and Edward; and three sisters, Mary Alice Christy, Betty Crandall and Vera Champlin. Service is 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th Street, Ashtabula with the Reverend Lee Freeborn officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
