Jim passed away June 19, 2013 at the age of 92. His funeral mass was held Monday, June 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit where he was a parishioner. A World War II veteran who served in the Pacific and China-Burma-India Theaters (including 82 missions over "The Hump") with the United States Air Force as an aircrew member, service pilot, and electronics technician, he enjoyed over fifty assignments during his career, serving in over twenty countries. While assigned to the U.S. Embassy Air Attache' in Buenos Aires, he met his future wife of almost 55 years, Carmen Rubio Bass. After retiring from active duty, he continued to serve our country with the Department of the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Bass & Ethel M. Bass and sister, Myrtice Reynolds. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Commander (Dr.) James D. (Dr. Rhonda) Bass, USN, of Jacksonville, Florida, Laura Mullins of Tallassee, Alabama, Elena Bass of Coral Gables, Florida, Michele (Dr. Steve) Hanam of Grayslake, Illinois and Kelley Tracy of Montgomery, Alabama; siblings, Betty Hicks of Tallahassee, Florida, Margaret Sheriff of Montgomery, Alabama, Hanley Bass, Wilford Bass, and Sherwood Bass, all of Wetumpka, Alabama, and grandchildren, Logan Bass, Aiden Bass, Patrick Mullins, Hunter Mullins, Carmen Mullins, Nic Mullins, and Claire Hanam.
