Walter Nelson Bass, age 87, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Sunday evening, September 29, 2019 at National HealthCare of Joplin, Joplin, Missouri. Walter was born May 12, 1932 in rural Sarcoxie, Missouri to the late Walter Glenn Bass and Mary Angieline (Davidson) Bass. He received his associate degree from Kansas State Teacher?s College in Pittsburg, Kansas. Walter was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked and retired in quality control at Dyno Nobel (previously Hercules Powder Plant) in Carthage. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Webb City.
Survivors include three sons, Ron Bass, Terry Bass and Valgene Bass, all of Carthage; one brother, Bob G. Bass (wife Betty Lou), Carthage; six grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Jeff Bass; and two sisters, Dorothy Lang and Betty Townsend.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1 pm, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Dudman Cemetery, east of Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
