Gerald W. Bass
Mr. Gerald Wayne Bass, 68, of Sarcoxie, Mo., departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at St. John?s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after a lengthy illness.
Gerald entered this life on Jan. 2, 1939, in Sarcoxie, one of six children born to Richard D. and Edna (Pauley) Bass. Gerald was a lifelong resident of the Sarcoxie area. On Sept. 20, 1974, in Miami, Okla., he was united in marriage to Sue Elizabeth Royster and together they shared the last 33 years. He retired in 2000 from Schreiber Foods in Carthage, Mo., after 44 years of employment. He loved the outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting, fishing, camping and family cookouts. He attend worship services at La Russell First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Daniel Bass; a grandson, Zeth Joyce; two sisters, Shelia Sageser and Shirley Jordan; and a brother, Ronnie Bass. Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Sue Bass; four sons, Terry Wayne Bass and wife, Gina, Matthew Bass, Steve Royster and wife, Teri, and David McNary and wife, Cheryl; four daughters, Ladonna Joyce and husband, Tim, Lori Holland and husband, Dennis, Vickie Lucas, and Pam Cossey and husband, Randy, of Carthage; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Edna Bass, of Sarcoxie; a brother, Dale Bass; a sister, Sharlene Long; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. Funeral services for Gerald Wayne Bass are 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home. Gordon Watson officiating.
Burial will follow in Harvey Cemetery near Sarcoxie. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Lynn White, Dick Tatum, Danny Bastings, Jeff Wilson, Brad Wilson and Roy Greathouse.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie.
