Wilmington - Jimmy Maynard Bass, 83, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. He was born on December 29, 1933, in Pitt County, North Carolina to the late Marvin H. and Eula V. Bass. Jimmy was an active member of Devon Park United Methodist Church. He enjoyed singing in the choir and working with the United Methodist Men. He volunteered with many outreach ministries including Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry. He attended Contentnea High School in Kinston, North Carolina. After graduation, he worked various jobs before beginning a 45 year career with DuPont. During that time he met his lovely bride, Elizabeth. Jimmy honorably served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, attaining the rank of Corporal. He is a recipient of The National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Quinn Bass; and his oldest daughter, Pamela Bass Hendrix. Survivors include his daughter Kimberly; grandchildren, Brandon Cavenaugh (Melissa), Jared Hendrix, Natalie Hendrix, Kayla Cavenaugh (Corey), Joshua Cavenaugh; great-granddaughter, Audrey Cavenaugh; brother, Billy Bass (Mary Lou); brother-in- law, Robert "Buddy" Quinn (Brenda); special family friend, Jane Weeks and many other beloved friends and relatives. On Friday, July 14, 2017, the family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. at Devon Park United Methodist Church. A "Celebration of Life" service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bill Adams officiating. A private interment will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
