Mr. Bass was a native of Louisiana, but when he was a boy his father moved to Texas and the lad grew up in Walker County, at Old Waverly. He was a merchant at Willis, Texas, for a number of years, but retired from active business pursuits about twenty years ago. He has been living in Houston about eighteen years and is well known here. Mr. Bass has been quite sick for sometime. His condition became worse and the efforts to relieve him were more active, but after the long siege death came to relieve him early this morning. He is survived by his wife, three sons, J. M. Bass, the junior, of Oklahoma City, T. O. Bass of Gainesville and Dr. R. C. Bass of this city, and a daughter, Mrs. J. W. Greenwell of Minneapolis. Tuesday morning the remains will be shipped to Old Waverly, in Walker County, where interment will take place in the family burying ground.
