Bass, a Smithfield native, operated Westside Sunoco Grocery and Service Station on West Center Street Extension. Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Surviving are widow, Mrs. Nina Bell Stokes Bass; stepfather, Herman Britton of Roanoke Rapids; daughters, Mrs. Frank Turowski of Welcome, Mrs. Tonnie Shoaf of Rt. 4; son, Sgt. Lester Lee Bass Jr., with the U. S. Air Force in Utah; sister, Mrs. Girdie Butts, and stepsisters, Mrs. Woodrow Thompson and Miss Ratchel Britton, all of Roanoke, Rapids.
