Evelyn Bassett of Harrisville Dies Suddenly
Harrisville, October 26 - Miss Evelyn Bassett, 17, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Bassett, died Saturday evening at the House of the Good Samaritan in Watertown.
She was taken ill Wednesday, October 13, while attending teachers' training class at the Carthage high school and was obliged to return to her home. She was attended by Dr. David Kellock, who called for a council of doctors on Tuesday, October 19.
She was removed to the House of the Good Samaritan the next morning and Drs. G.S. Gregor and George Nellis attended her but pleurisy and septic poisoning developed. Her death occurred at 9:15 Saturday night.
She was born July 28, 1909 at Harrisville and at the age of 15 graduated from the local high school. Last year she did post-graduate work in the same school pending the time when she could enter teachers' training class.
There survive her besides her parents, George C. and Mabel Tiffany Bassett; two brothers, Mervil G. and Harold E., as well as two grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and was active in the Sunday school, Christian Endeavor and sang in the choir.
Funeral services were conducted from the home of the parents Tuesday at 2, Reverend Harry White, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. School friends acted as bearers and interment was made in the Harrisville cemetery.
