Barry Bass
Barry Boyd Bass, born June 30, 1942, died October 31, 2024 after a cancer battle that began in 2013.
Barry's life work was in the criminal justice field, serving as Parole Superintendent for the Illinois Department of Corrections, adjunct faculty at Illinois State University and consultant providing expert offender management advice throughout the country.
Outside of his professional roles, you could always find Barry in one of two places- voraciously reading or enjoying nature, usually with a faithful canine companion at his side. Contemplative and reserved, he prided himself on being informed about important issues and thankfully for his family, knew how to fix almost everything as a self-taught handyman.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary and his children from a previous marriage to Marjorie Widiger Bass who tragically died in a motorcycle accident in 1994. Barry was so very proud of who his two children Dylan Boyd (Michele) Bass and Meghan Lindsay (Jason) Bass-Petti grew to become!
In addition to being a proud Dad, he was a loving "G'pa" to each of his seven grandchildren, Hunter (Caleb) Parsons, Logan, Rylan, Nathan, Lila, Colin and Kaia and great grandchild Sloane. Barry is also survived by his sister Barbara (Jerry) McAnarney, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Menard County Trails and Greenways, Menard County Rescue and Memorial Home Hospice for whom special thanks are given for the excellent care provided to Barry.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate the life and love of Barry.
